The Inside Story

Sigma Delta Omega, the Honor Society of Broadcast Professionals, is a national non–profit organization established to provide recognition and support for professionals in the field of broadcasting including talk show hosts, on-air personalities, announcers, D.Js, producers, in radio, TV and online (Internet) broadcasting.

Sigma Delta Omega’s goal is to promote and provide support for our broadcast professional members by providing professional & marketing workshops, keeping them up to date on the latest technology, promote the growth of members who want to advance in their broadcasting careers and maintain an up-to-date “Help Wanted and Positions Wanted” section on our Web site. Although our rights as a broadcasters/talk show hosts are guaranteed under the First Amendment, some employers and government authorities do not always recognize those rights. Sigma Delta Omega (SDO), nationally and locally, supports the battles for freedom of information and First Amendment rights.

Sigma Delta Omega
has developed important programs which include a 40 hour Talk Show Host Workshop for those wanting to be hosts on radio (Internet and terrestrial) and as a refresher for those who are want to improve their effectiveness and an awards program to identify and reward broadcasters who, through their service to the community, have brought honor to the broadcast industry

Recognition

The Society promotes excellence in broadcasting through its Sigma Delta Omega awards for broadcast professionals on radio, TV and online broadcasting. The Sigma Delta Omega Fellow Awards honor the outstanding work of talk show hosts in all broadcast media. Other awards recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations for efforts to improve and protect the profession. Sigma Delta Omega awards four $5,000 Talk Show Scholarship Grants each year to deserving applicants. The money for these grants come from donations by members, industry related businesses and radio stations. Sigma Delta Omega is supported in part by a grant from the National Public Access Radio Foundation (NPAR).

Membership

Membership in Sigma Delta Omega - the Honor Society of Broadcast Professionals is by nomination and invitation only, by a member, employer, producer, or member of the public who feel the nominee deserves such recognition. The nominee must be in broadcasting as a talk show host, producer, on air personality, or one of the many positions relating to broadcasting and producing a talk show or news broadcast.
